Introduction
God created every man and woman in His own image and likeness, finding them beautiful at the end of creation. However, various reasons have marred this beauty over time. Msgr. F.E. DSouza recognized the deteriorating situation of men and women in the surroundings of Alangar-Moodbidri and the Malnad area, leading him to found Mount Rosary Sanatorium on June 27, 1937. The causes of this decline were numerous: incurable sicknesses of the time, aged individuals without children or relatives to care for them, and those abandoned due to social evils. For these three categories, he built shelters on Mount Rosary lands and registered the institution as Mount Rosary Charitable Institutions, Alangar, Moodbidri.
Aims of Mount Rosary Charitable Institutions
The aims of our institution are threefold:
1. To care for convalescent tuberculosis patients rejected by their families.
2. To provide shelter for aged and dying men and women until the end of their lives.
3. To restore human dignity to destitute women through counselling and teaching them how to live useful, dignified, and respectful lives.
Current Projects and Needs
- Construction of New Building St. Ann's for Destitute Women: We are building a new facility, St. Ann's, to provide a safe and supportive environment for destitute women. This building will offer them the care and dignity they deserve.
- Repair of Holy Rosary Male Ward: The male ward, which has provided shelter and care for many over the years, is in urgent need of repairs to continue serving its residents effectively.
- Repair of St. Pius the X Female Ward: Similarly, the female ward requires significant repairs to ensure a safe and comfortable living space for the women in our care.
- Renew the dammar road inside Mount Rosary campus, where the aged inmates do walking.
Conclusion
God has made this world wonderful, imbuing every creature with His spirit and love. Yet, social, economic, health, and moral evils have caused many to lose their dignity and worth. It is our duty to restore this dignity as much as possible, and we do this through voluntary and societal organizations. Mount Rosary Charitable Institutions is one such organization.
We seek cooperation and partnership from individuals and other organizations to support our efforts. Your contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve. We welcome your support for the ventures of Mount Rosary and pray for the blessings of Mother Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, on all our collaborators.
Thank you for your generosity.
Warm regards,
Msgr. Edwin C. Pinto Sr. Prescilla DMello
